Has the reputation of the 3.5 recovered yet? I've read non-positive things online. The rep at Lexus told me it was junk, which was a rather odd statement to make at the time (he was on a rant about Toyota losing their way or something )

He was a weird cat. Said his little daughters gave him purpose. Would not give me back my fucking keys while he told me his life story.
Anyway, he also said the similar 2GR-FKS engine in the V6 Camry was not built to last because of direct injection, undermining the purpose of the Camry altogether (longevity and bulletproofnessorino).
Like I said, stra nge guy.

It’s fine(I have a 3rd gen Taco, 30k Mike’s since December.). It’s not as torquey as the 4.0 it replaced but that’s the biggest complaint I’ve heard. Nothing about direct injection hurts an engine’s longevity?

3.5 likes to rev - 4.0 did not.. our 2nd Gen was dead above 3k rpm where the new one is just waking up.
Transmission is tuned to match so all those complaints are people trying to lug a 6 speed like a old truck from 2005..
wouldn’t extended cab though... double cab short box off roads come in manuel also..

CP. I almost bought one of those new, the exact same spec and colour, when I got my WRX. It would’ve cost me just under $38k before taxes including a set of winter tires.
